Hi and welcome to the latest newsletter. Already a week since our first concert of the year and we’re still buzzing about the date! We are calling this newsletter ‘Down To Brighton On My Scooter With You” with reference to the line in the song ‘Its A Mod Mod World!’ You can see a clip of the set opener here! The atmosphere in the venue was electric!
We certainly enjoyed our day at the seaside! Brighton Bank Holiday is remarkable as a collective celebration of all aspects of mod culture. Last year we played alongside the ‘This Is The Modern World’ exhibition.
This year we got to enjoy the constant cavalcade of scooters on display along the sea front, meet with friends and Squire fans who had travelled from as far as California, Ireland, and across Europe. We even bumped into Phil Daniels!
We lost count of the number of simultaneous events happening all weekend. The atmosphere was relaxed and the weather was great!
The concert gave us, not only the opportunity to share the stage with a great cross section of bands that represent different perspectives of mod sounds, but to ‘road test’ some never played songs from Get Smart in advance of our tour alongside Secret Affair starting next month! We won’t be able to play them all during the tour, but as you can see from the set list, all nine electric songs made it into the set list!
We also managed to play No Time Tomorrow for the first time since 2017! Our esteemed Squire fan Richard managed to capture much of the set on video, and we will share some of the highlights with you in the run up to the tour.
It reminds us that one of the key ingredients of the band is our on stage identity. We love playing live, and there is no mistaking the Squire sound! Its unique amalgam of 12-string Rickenbacker, melodic bass and power pop drums, supporting a velvet vocal tapestry of melody and harmony, delivering a treasure trove of meticulously polished pop gems!! We hope you agree!
The Squire tour alongside Secret Affair is just around the corner, and we can't wait to take you along for the ride! Stay tuned for more updates and video clips!
