Vinyl Vault - Squire – Eight Miles High / Rain

This unique Squire single features covers of two of the most challenging songs to record: Eight Miles High by The Byrds and Rain by The Beatles—and we nailed it! Part of a project to rediscover 1960s recording techniques, it explores the contrasting sounds of American psychedelia’s raga-inspired reverb and the playful, studio-driven innovation of British pop psychedelia.

Using only vintage analogue equipment, we recreated the tracks by playing live in the studio, following the creative paths of the originals. This disc includes American-style recordings—Eight Miles High with a Byrds-inspired Nashville sound, and Rain reimagined as if recorded in Los Angeles by session musicians like the Wrecking Crew.
