The first-ever Mod single release! On 1 May 1979, Squire, dressed in red Harringtons, sta-prest trousers, and loafers, stood out amongst the punks at Trafalgar Square for the launch of Rok Records’ 20 Bands / 10 Singles series. Recorded in 1978 as a 3-track cassette to secure London gigs, Rok chose it as their first release (ROK 1A) and invited Squire to perform at the launch party in Charing Cross.
Pressed as a limited edition of 1,500 copies, it was backed with Coming Shortly’s Doing The Flail. While other bands on the series leaned more punk, Squire was unmistakably mod, appearing later on the iconic Mods Mayday album.
Hilo finally re-released the song as a 7-inch single, backed with the track that Rok featured on the Odds, Odds, Mods & Sods LP ‘ Livin’ In The City’ And it made a great double sided record! Sold out on release, here’s a single red copy!
